University of Helsinki:
Helsinki University is the oldest university in Finland, founded in 1640. It has been located in the Finnish capital since 1829, but before that, it was known as the Turku Royal Academy and is situated in the oldest settlement in the world, Turku. Today, Finland's highest-ranking institution is the University of Helsinki, at joint 102nd in the country. Besides being the oldest and the top-ranked, the university is also the largest higher education institution in Finland, with more than 32,000 students enrolled. It has 11 faculties and 11 institutes of study and offers degrees taught in Finnish, Swedish and English. Helsinki University offers scholarships to outstanding students from outside Europe and Switzerland who want to graduate from university with a Master's degree. There are three types of scholarships: pre-funded grant, full tuition fee grant, and research grant.
Aalto University:
Located also in the capital city, Aalto University is the second-highest-ranking institution in Finland – currently ranked joint 137th in the world. The university was established in 2010 through a fusion of three existing universities, namely the University of Technology in Helsinki, the Helsinki School of Economics and the Helsinki University of Art and Design. The Finnish Government's target was to establish a new university, which would be an innovation model and a symbol of high-quality education. About 12,100 students are studying here today. Prospective students subject to tuition fees are eligible to apply for a Scholarship from Aalto University. Many joint international degree programs have their tuition fees and schemes of study. The Aalto University Scholarship consists of two forms of grants.
University of Eastern Finland:
The University of Eastern Finland, the seventh highest-ranked Finnish university, currently ranks 451-460 in the country. It was founded in 2010, by a merger between Joensuu University and Kuopio University. More than 15,000 students currently study in one of the four faculties of the university. The University of Eastern Finland has a large network of foreign collaborators with a strong reputation for research and is also active in international projects. The main campuses of the university are in the towns of Joensuu and Kuopio, with some facilities also in Savonlinna, all within the country's southeast, in the area formerly known as Eastern Finland. Scholarships are awarded for two academic years, provided that 55 ECTS credits per academic year are completed. Even students who have not been awarded a scholarship while applying for university entry can still be eligible for a scholarship in their second year of study, provided they have qualified for a scholarship and completed the 55 ECTS credits needed during the first academic year as derailed in the personal study plan.
University of Jyväskylä:
The University of Jyväskylä was formed in 1934 and originated from the first Finnish-speaking teacher training college, founded in 1863. The university is jointly ranked 357th in the world and teaches around 15,000 students in six faculties. It maintains its legacy of teacher-training, considered to be the region's leading university for education programs. This is also expressed by Topic 2017 in the QS World University Rankings, which positions Jyväskylä University among the top 100 universities worldwide in the field of education and training. At Jyväskylä University, tuition is paid only to non-EU / EEA students who study the Master's program in English. University of Turku:
Finland's second-largest university is Turku University, where a little over 20,000 students are enrolled in different fields including technology. Rated 276th in the world, the university has its main campus in Turku, in southwestern Finland, but also faculties in Rauma, Pori and Salo. Turku University was founded in 1920, after donations from over 22,000 people. It puts a heavy focus on international cooperation and provides many master and PhD programs run in conjunction with other countries 'universities.
